We all know that some animals hibernate for the winter with the goal of saving vital resources and just survival. Deciduous trees behave approximately the same, many plants. But as biologists found out, some plants are capable of fall into hibernation when their seeds or roots underground in may not germinate for many years, waiting for more favorable conditions for this.
This is used, for example, by a real shoe (Cypripedium calceolus), Long-leaved Pollen-headed (Cephalanthera longifolia) and many other plants that do not just choose the most favorable natural conditions for germination, but also appreciate long term. Due to this, the population of the species is not only it does not decrease due to such hibernation, but rather, on the contrary, it is crowned. After all, such “sleeping plants” are able to take into account not only weather conditions, but also the threat of pests, the invasion of herbivores and much another – after that call the flora unreasonable, when even the flowers possess the gift of analysis and foresight of the future.

Scientists are also interested in how plants survive. underground during “long hibernation”, because they can’t here rely on photosynthesis. But it turned out that it’s not need: they get all the nutrients they need from soil fungi.
