Australian researchers have found mushrooms that touch can cause serious harm to the human body.
Two scientists from the James Cook University of Australia became the authors of this find. This type of mushroom is reddish yellow colors, have the Latin name Podostroma cornu-damae. Looking at these mushrooms, there is no sensation of danger at all, on the contrary – they somewhat reminiscent of ordinary carrots.
Mushrooms were discovered in the rainforests of Australia, located next to the Great Barrier Reef. Among all known species of fungi, this species is the only one whose toxins are capable of penetrate the human body through the skin. In this connection, experts categorical do not recommend touching these mushrooms. Besides of this, scientists have discovered up to eight types of toxic compounds, that these fungi can secrete.
These mushrooms were previously known to scientists, but met they are only in Japan, Korea, China and Java. Now it becomes apparent that their distribution area is growing.
These poisonous organisms, apart from the Australian forests, are already found in the suburbs of Cleveland, which is located in the north Australia Moreover, they found these dangerous mushrooms near residential buildings. Currently, experts are trying to establish which way they came from Asian countries to the continent.
