The unique mummy of a girl of 14-15 years old was discovered in 1999 year on the slope of the volcano Llullaillaco, towering at 6739 meters above sea level on the border of Chile and Argentina. Instead of traditional DNA analysis, scientists studied proteins in tissues and found that the apparently healthy girl had a bacterial pulmonary tuberculosis infection. Beyond the teenager in the burial place were found two more mummies – a 7-year-old boy and 6 year old girl. All three finds unlike embalmed Egyptian “colleagues” were deeply frozen. Boy body also studied, but to investigate the remains of a 6-year-old girls scientists have not yet decided, because, probably, in her once lightning hit, which may affect the accuracy of the results research.

It is worth noting that, most likely, three children were sacrificed, as evidenced by the artifacts next to them: gold, silver, clothes, food bowls and an extravagant headdress of white feathers of unknown birds.

Historians suggest that children were chosen by the Incas for sacrifices for their beauty. In addition, children were considered more pure beings than adults. By the way, during the previous studies have also found that before the death of children on throughout the year they were fed with “elite” products – maize and dried meat of llamas – although before that they ate exclusively peasant food, consisting of potatoes and vegetables.
