Survive miraculously in a plane crash

The plane exploded on take-off, fell to pieces in the air, lost control and collapsed to the ground. Upon hearing such a message, we we usually think that everyone – crew members and passengers were killed. Of course, to survive in such situations is almost impossible. But still, miracles happen.

Tragic excursion

September 5 , 1936 17-year-old Linda MacDonald paid 20 dollars to view Pittsburgh aerial view. She and 9 others boarded the plane, the engine roared, the car accelerated and broke away from the runway. Passengers clung to the windows. At an altitude of 500 m. The engine stopped. The plane went into a tailspin and crashed into the ground. Arrived at the place to their amazement, firefighters found a barely living girl under the rubble – the only one who survived.

The girl received numerous fractures and had every chance die in a hospital bed. But she survived and therefore went down in history aviation, opening the list of miraculous survivors, the only ones left in alive.

Flight NW255

August 16, 1987 Northwest Airlines Airliner flew from Detroit to Phoenix. Barely off the ground, he hooked lamppost, lost part of the wing, collapsed on the highway, crashed into overpass and collapsed. A column of flame shot up. Sirens howled ambulance and fire engines. But if the fire-fighters were above work heads, then the doctors got only corpses, that they are not at all surprised: no one survives after such accidents. But not this time.

The fireman John Tied, who worked at the scene of the accident, didn’t even hear moaning, but a barely audible squeak. From under the debris peeking out a children’s pen 4 year old Cessilia Xichang. She was the only one who survived after air crash. Skull fracture, collarbone and leg fracture, burns third degree – the girl underwent four operations.

In 2013, journalists met with Mrs. Crocker (Cessilia Xichang). Woman showed airplane tattoo on wrist made by in memory of that terrible day and reported that flying airplanes is not afraid, because the probability of getting into a plane crash repeatedly is negligible small. In Russia, in such cases they say: a shell in one funnel two times does not fall.

Survive an accident in an ocean teeming with sharks

July 30, 2009 Airbus A310 flew from France to the Comoros. A few minutes before landing, the airliner disappeared from the radar screens. Rescuers flew into the crash area. Few hours they combed square by square, but not a single survivor was found. And yet a miracle happened.

14 hours after the disaster, local fishermen found swimming in the sea a fragment of the wing of the liner, which was 13-year-old Bahia Bakari. After the crash, she survived and was in the water. Not knowing how to swim, without a life jacket, with numerous bruises and broken collarbone, at night, and even in Mozambique shark-infested the strait … How many chances did she have of surviving? One in a million? But it was he who got it.

However, if Bahia escaped for several hours, then Juliana Kepke – a few days, and her situation was much worse.

Double miracle

December 29, 1971 in Lockheed airline LANSA (Peru) lightning. The plane crashed at an altitude of about 3 km. and fell in the jungle. The tops of the trees softened the blow. 17-year-old Juliana Kepke woke up only on the second day after the disaster and saw wild around me jungle. It’s difficult for a healthy person to survive in them, but for Juliana, as doctors later established, there was a fracture of the clavicle, a concussion brain, torn ligament in the knee, bruise of the right eye, numerous cuts, including deep ones.

For three days Juliana was waiting for rescuers, on the 4th day she decided to save herself and went to search for people. Walking along the creek on the 9th day she went to the shack of the fishermen, who took her to the nearest village. Experts believe that staying alive after an accident was for Julian was just a miracle, and to survive in the jungle was a miracle doubly.

Our man in the Guinness Book of Records

What height do you think you can fall without killing? 5meters? fifteen? 20? Larisa Savitskaya fell from a height of more than 5 km, for which hit the Guinness Book of Records. In August 1981, a 20-year-old Larisa flew from Komsomolsk-on-Amur to Blagoveshchensk. On high 5200m passenger AN-24 collides with a military bomber TU-16. The liner broke right in the air.

Eight minutes a fragment of the plane (3x4m), where Larisa was, rushed to the ground. This is enough to realize the inevitability death, prepare for death. A fragment of a liner fell on a birch the grove. No one survived except Larisa.

With broken arms and ribs, spinal injuries, concussion Larisa’s brain spent two days in the taiga. It was raining all this time. Of the wreckage of the aircraft Larisa made a shelter for herself, from mosquitoes covered with a plastic bag. Rescuers who collected two days corpses and fragments of bodies were shocked to find a living person.

Savitskaya received compensation – 75 rubles. And the second time I got into Guinness book as the victim of a plane crash, received the most scanty payout.

Double happiness of Spring Vulovich

Spring was a flight attendant, crew member of the Douglas DC-9, flying 01/26/1972 from Stockholm to Belgrade. Over the territory Czechoslovakia at an altitude of more than 10.160 m. The plane crashed. Rather total, there was an explosion. 22-year-old stewardess fell from a height of 10 km!

But Spring was lucky not only to survive after the fall. On the good luck smiled at her a second time. Found a local spring a peasant who worked during a war in a field hospital. He managed to catch signs of life in an insensitive body and rendered the girl first aid. Spring spent 16 days in a coma and a half years in a hospital bed.

Having recovered, Spring returned to work for the airline, planning keep flying the stewardess, but the doctors said no. The hardest injuries (fracture of the base of the skull, fractures of both legs, three vertebrae, pelvis) could not pass without a trace, later the girl worked in ground services.

Pure math

There are people who are panicky afraid to fly. A few days before the planned flight they get nervous, for a few hours – breathing goes astray, the heartbeat quickens and in the last the moment they rent a plane ticket. Air flight for them associated with imminent death.

Jeff Rosenthal, professor of mathematics from the University of Toronto (Canada) calculated the probability of a crash for a person flying aircraft, it was only 0.00001%. And even in the event of an accident less than 5% of the total number of passengers on board dies. IN much more people die and car accidents the survivors in them are much lower. But we, nevertheless, are not afraid ride in cars.
