“The one who will disturb my peace awaits a terrible fate!” – such inscriptions are found in Egypt over almost every burial, regardless, the grave is a pharaoh or a simple official. Ignoring formidable warning, archaeologists and grave diggers constantly open graves, the first – for scientific interest, the second – for the sake of profit. But sometimes the inscription is not just a shake air.

First victims: four Englishmen

In 1890, four wealthy Englishmen traveled around To Egypt. Naturally, they dreamed of taking away from the country besides impressions and a souvenir from the category of “standing.” In Luxor, tourists came out grave robbers and offered to purchase a prisoner in a sarcophagus the mummy of Princess Amen-Ra. The sarcophagus was in excellent condition, and the British even had to draw lots, who would become his happy the owner. The next day, the mummy was delivered to the hotel, the calculation was made, and the four all night enthusiastically admired sarcophagus.

The next morning, the happy owner of the mummy went to the desert. What kind his business was in the sand – unknown, but he didn’t go to the hotel in the evening came back. The second tourist received an accidental gunshot wound in arm, and it had to be amputated. The third, having arrived in England, found out that the bank to which he entrusted all his savings burst. Fourth fell ill, lost his job and a year later he sold matches on the street.

There are dozens of victims

The British passed their friend’s last purchase to his relatives and they tried to get rid of the Egyptian as soon as possible souvenir. The mummy began her journey through private collections, leaving a chain of deaths and tribulations: one owner robbers were killed on the street, relatives of the second were injured, the third house burned down, etc. The last owner, unable to sell sarcophagus (gloomy glory about him spread all over London), presented him (along with the misfortunes attached) as a gift to the British Museum.

On the way to the museum, the mummy pulled under the wheels of the carrier crew of a gaping passerby. One of the workers who raised the sarcophagus on the top floor of the museum fell and broke his leg. To his partner less fortunate – he died a few days later. Egyptian Hall, where put the mummy, gained notoriety among employees: night watchmen they assured that at night in the coffin someone groans, weeps and bashes in cover.

After one of the watchmen was found dead in the morning, the cleaning lady who wiped the “face” of the sarcophagus with a dirty handkerchief died of measles son, employees began to quit the museum. Mummy was moved to storage tanks. One of the workers who carried the sarcophagus fell ill, the second – died.

A lively reporter decided to make an article about the “killer mummy”, visited Museum’s storerooms and photographed the princess. Showing film at home and having printed the pictures, he destroyed the photos, and he went into the bathroom shot himself.

Account goes to hundreds and thousands

After such ordeals, the museum management decided to get rid of sinister exhibit. Bought a mummy passionate collector lord Canterville. The English aristocrat heard about the spell, but not believed. However, it was strictly forbidden to all households to open sarcophagus.

For a long time, misfortunes bypassed the family of the Lord. In 1912 year, he decided to introduce the sarcophagus at the New York exhibition, bought a ticket for a comfortable liner and booked a place for the mummy in cargo compartment. The ship was called the Titanic. 1496 people sank to the bottom of the atlantic ocean but not a princess Amen-Ra.

In 1914, the new owner of the sarcophagus, a lover of antiquity from Montreal set off in company with the Princess on the Queen Ireland “to England. As soon as leaving the port, the ship collided Norwegian ship and went to the bottom. 1029 people were killed. Canadian survived. Mummy too. At night, the Canadian had a vision: the spirit of a princess demanded to return the sarcophagus to Luxor, otherwise …

Heeding the warning, in May 1915 he plunged with a mummy on a ship going to Egypt. After six days of swimming the ship was seen at its periscope by the captain of a German submarine. From 1,200 units sailed on the ship, and among them – the Canadian, already moved by the mind. Neither doctors nor historians could find out from him, what was the fate of the sarcophagus. Most likely, he went to the bottom together by steamer. We hope that there will remain a sarcophagus forever and ever.

But if any sunken treasure seeker ever find the sarcophagus and raise it to the surface, then the fate of the poor fellow will be sad, and death will be terrible.
