Films about the living dead, we perceive as a horror story, not more. Everyone is sure that the deceased does not rise. So why stories about the living dead are certainly found in a variety of peoples separated by thousands of kilometers of space? It does not seem Do you find this strange?

Vampire cemeteries

In 1994, the ancient city of Chelyakovitsy was excavated. X-XI century cemetery The remains of 13 people lay in 11 graves. These were men 30-40 years old. Everyone was connected. Many have their hands chopped off and heads. Each one has broken ribs on the left side – it was driven in Aspen stake. Apparently, a thousand years ago, residents of Chelyakovitsy had good reason to fear that these 13 people will rise from the graves and tried to protect themselves from the visit of dangerous guests. Many newspapers talked about a terrible find and only a few bothered to mention that this is not the first find of burials vampires.

Burials with pierced bodies are often found in the Balkans. And not only in the Balkans. In 2009, a skeleton of a woman with brick in the mouth (one of the methods of dealing with a vampire). Yes, and myself the custom of putting the deceased in a coffin, and then firmly nailed it nails, suggests that our ancestors seriously feared that a dead person may rise from the grave.

Resurrection from the dead

We look through the chronicle of the last resurrections. In 2003, Italian Roberto de Simone when relatives were about to cover the coffin he cleared his throat and asked for water. Declared dead in 2007 had an accident 21-year-old Zach Dunlap during the farewell procedure moved his legs. In 2010, in Colombia, the 45-year-old “deceased” when the employees of the ritual agency began to prepare it burial, she suddenly breathed. In 2011, at the door of Simferopol one of the living “dead” began to knock the morgue: open, bastards, it’s cold!

But the death of each of them was ascertained by medical an employee. If even today doctors are mistaken, then earlier with more the low level of development of medicine, such cases have happened much more often! The Italian poet Francesco Petrarch in 1344 fell into lethargic dream, was declared dead. After 20 hours he woke up, shocking everyone present and working for another 30 years after “resurrection”.

In 1772, the Duke of Meckleburg introduced a mandatory decree three days between death and burial – were too frequent cases of “rebellion from the grave.” England still has a law obliging every morgue to have a bell so that the “living dead” could tell the world about your return to the world of the living. As you can see premature burial was considered a serious problem, which demanded a decision.

But there were unfortunate people who came to their senses after burial places. If for any reason such a burial opened, it found a dead man who rolled over in a coffin, with a distorted face, bloodied hands tearing itself clothes.

The dead man is back home!

In medieval villages, where there were no doctors at all, there were much more cases of burial of living than in cities where at least some medic was present. More often here are the “dead” and resurrected. Buried in a shroud at a shallow depth “dead” could completely break the shroud, dig up and return home.

Now imagine the scene when he returns home “risen” – distraught (it is clear that such an “adventure” is not could not affect the psyche), with a bloodied mouth (in the struggle for unhappy life could bite his lips in blood), in a torn shroud! Naturally, the first desire in people was as possible rather send a relative to where he came from. Him and sent, quickly and soon: tied, chopped off legs, arms, head, so that he would surely die, and they would drive a stake in his chest – for insurance.

Died – died so don’t rise again

Nobody wanted to experience such horror. Therefore, to the dead did not return, people began to spend money on coffins, their knocked together. If a person with frozen life functions already ready for burial suddenly showed signs of life – instead to rejoice, they hurried to drive a “vampire” stake into the chest. Every such the case was remembered for a long time, overgrown with a mass of details. No wonder the story of the resurrected dead can be found in folklore of any people.

So there were reasons for creating horror stories about the walking dead. We can only console ourselves that such cases are becoming less, and each of them is already becoming a sensation. And believe that real zombies are a figment of the imagination of writers and filmmakers.
