Bangladeshi resident Abdul Samad Shaykh recently turned 60 years old and he moonlights as a rickshaw in the streets of his hometown Faridpur. His earnings are very small, but Abdul himself admits that he doesn’t need much money. This amazing man is the goal to which he devoted his whole life. It started this story when 12-year-old Abdul decided that every day will plant at least one tree to transform the desert the area around.

“Wood Samad”, as the inhabitants of Faridpur call it, receives for their work rickshaws about 100 so per day (approximately 1.25 dollar). This money is barely enough to feed a family, however, Abdul manages to save in order to buy at least daily one seedling in an agricultural center.

Abdul Samad admits: his habit of planting a tree a day so strong that if for some reason he is not able do it, then then all night can’t fall asleep. And then on next time planting two trees. All his “wards” grow on land that belongs to the state, and this saves them from cutting down. Abdul regularly water his trees and carefully caring for them. If he sees someone breaking branches, then resented and defended his “green pets”. Abdul says that he loves all living things, but trees for him are something special.

The family of “tree Samad” has four children. When he decides on that spend money earned per day, then always gives the priority of buying seedlings, for which he is often scolded by Jorn’s wife. But the thirty-year-old son of Abdul, on the contrary, is proud of him and believes that the father is engaged in a wonderful business necessary for society.
