Researchers have discovered off the Irish coast guns and other artifacts that were once on one of ships of the Spanish armada. It became possible after strong storms ashore fragments of the old the ship.
Having examined the seabed, experts found several cannons, installed on a ship called “La Juliana”. Despite that these guns went under water with the ship in 1588, they perfectly preserved. One gun depicts Saint Matron, which was especially revered in Catalonia. On the same gun you can see the date when it was made – 1570. Then there was launched and La Juliana.

According to representatives of the Department of Arts of Ireland, almost all the fragments found belong to the ship La Juliana, which was part of the Invincible Armada and together with two more ships in 1588 sank in the area. Remnants of Santa Maria de Vision and La Lavia apparently remains under a thick layer of sand. These ships went to the bottom during a storm. In a shipwreck killed more than a thousand sailors and soldiers.
Initially, La Juliana cruised to the shores of Italy, transporting various goods. However, Philip II, king of Spain, sent ship along with the invincible armada, which consisted of 130 ships to the English shores. There were 32 guns on La Juliana, the team totaled 70 sailors. 325 were also on board soldier.
