State-of-the-art developments and technologies help people with with disabilities it is better to feel the world around them. This is especially true for those who have serious vision problems. After all, visual perception is the most important source information.
Of course, glasses and all kinds of gadgets equipped displays help visually impaired people. But their possibilities are fading against the background of innovative development of students of Birmingham University. The latter invented the so-called “smart cane”, Designed for the visually impaired.
Thanks to the work of Richard Howlett, Steve Adigbo and Wahid Rafik a cane was created that is able to recognize relatives and friends people at their approach. The principle of its functioning is as follows. The cane communicates with the smartphone via Bluetooth. In his In turn, the corresponding software is downloaded to the phone. Exactly the latter and allows you to identify faces. The camera scans faces all oncoming passers-by and analyzes them with photos that are available in smartphone memory.
Having stumbled upon a friend in the city, the owner of a “smart cane” receives a vibration signal that serves as a hint to him. Like, say hello. At the same time, a Bluetooth headset connected to the system notifies the visually impaired not only about the name of a friend, but also gives him other information about this person. The cane sends a signal that activates the GPS receiver (it determines the position of the person).
The first tests of a “smart cane” called XploR passed on territories of Luxembourg and France. Soon she will be tested in scientific and medical institutions in Germany and the UK. TO In short, most doctors and engineers had a “smart cane” soul. So it is possible that in the very near future she will be launched into mass production.
Meanwhile, scientists have developed a new gadget that allows diagnose by photograph.
