Scientists believe that sprites are directly related to thunderstorms. clouds, that’s why at the end of spring in such latitude, where is Czech Republic, they can be observed and even taken on a photo or video, if the operator has enough patience and endurance. Lightning researcher and all that is connected with them, Oscar van der Velde (Technical University of Catalonia) considers sprites a purely weather phenomenon, and not cosmic, as some philistines think. Usually, sprites can be observed after a strong lightning discharge, and this occurs with a difference of just a few tenths seconds.

Sprites are very impressive pillars of fire, they are born high above the ground – fifty – one hundred thirty kilometers (for comparisons – lightnings originate at a height not exceeding sixteen kilometers), in length can reach sixty kilometers, and in diameter – one hundred kilometers. For the first time, and quite by accident, the sprites were captured in the photo in 1989, so it’s clear that their study has almost only begun. Scientists don’t even really so far they know why this natural phenomenon arises and how much it dangerous to humans.
However, if the photographer manages to shoot sprites, such pictures you can admire and admire endlessly, because it’s rare, a very impressive natural phenomenon is beautiful in itself and to that it mesmerizes with some secret – another mystery, until open and not understood by humanity.
