People with red hair are more likely to be born in countries with wet hair. climate
British scientists have revealed the secret of people with red hair, finding out that they are most often born in countries where the climate more humid and cold, and the sky is more often cloudy. About 6% of the inhabitants all of northern Europe are red, according to preliminary statistical data. Moreover, as The Telegraph writes, a palm tree championship here, apparently, belongs just the same United Kingdom: 13% of Scots have red hair, 10% Irish and 6% of the English.
This discovery is most likely due to the fact that residents these regions suffer from a constant lack of sunlight, says rector of the university, one of the authors of the study St Andrews Alistair Moffat. “People living in hot African dark-skinned countries due to an excess of vitamin D from sunlight, but the inhabitants of the northern countries, by contrast, have pale skin sensitive to sunlight, which is why the same freckles appear, “he explained. In the course of his work scientists counted red-haired people in various European States and conducted, in total, about 4 thousand tests. TO for example, they found out why there are more redheads in the UK, than in Scandinavia, despite the fact that the climate humidity in these regions are approximately the same. It turned out that the whole point is cloud cover: average daily sunshine, for example, in Sweden is 5.4 hours, while in Scotland – only 3.1. The number of people wearing the “red genome” turned out to be more impressive than the number of those in whom it appeared. So, in Ireland 10% of the population have red hair, but the corresponding genome found in 46% of residents. Scientists add: if both parents are its carriers, then in 25% of cases it will be transferred and their to children. Redheads make up only 1% – 2% of the total population the planet. In ancient times, various superstitions were associated with them. For example, the Greeks believed that redheads after death turn into vampires, and in the Middle Ages during the “witch hunt”, red-haired women were primarily targeted. The exception was perhaps Ancient Rome, where the red slaves were valued much more expensive than the rest. It’s also known that redheads do not turn gray, and become blond with age, they are most often left-handed, and red women are considered more temperamental natures. However, red-haired people are more susceptible to a number of diseases, among which such as Parkinson’s disease and skin cancer. For this reason, they long exposure to ultraviolet rays is contraindicated. Went also rumors that after 100 years, redheads may disappear from the face of the Earth, but subsequently, scientists have refuted them.
