Unusual fishing on Lake Antogo

Each nation, even the smallest, has its own traditions. To outsiders, they may seem strange or ridiculous, but each of them has its own story. One of such an unusual tradition is the ritual on Lake Antogo, located in the heart of Mali (Africa). Small lake It feeds on the waters of the Niger River and is rich in fish. Residents of thirteen villages living nearby Dogon tribe – consider this lake sacred. Therefore fishing in it banned year-round – except for one day. According to legend, this ritual is rooted in the distant past. Dogon, when several villages discovered this lake at once. The bloody war between them for the right to name their lake was fought a long time and claimed many lives. And now the annual fishing called to unite the whole tribe, it acts as a symbol of unity and the world of all Dogon villages.
