Walking corpse syndrome

What makes living people think they are dead? You say absurd? Meanwhile, we are talking about a rare mental illness, which affects only a few hundred people in the world. They are really convinced that life left them and they only misunderstandings are in this world … True, unlike real dead, they can still be cured. Kotar syndrome – this disease is officially called – according to doctors, is one of the varieties of depression. The first such case was recorded in 1880 by the French neurologist Jules Cotard. Manifestations of the disease can be very different. Some patients lose the ability to move limbs. Others cannot eat. Some try to commit suicide, for example, burn themselves acid to “free” from the “dead” flesh … In 2008, one 53-year-old New Yorker told her relatives that she died and smells like rotting fish. The woman asked me to take her to morgue, where she could be with other dead men … But instead, her family called her an ambulance. After a month of treatment, lady got better. A patient named Graham, a resident of Britain, has a syndrome Kotara was diagnosed nine years ago. One beautiful morning the man woke up and felt confident that he was already died. He could neither eat nor smoke, he did not want to with anyone speak. “I didn’t want to see anyone. There was no sense, ”recalls Graham. – I did not feel pleasure from either of what. I used to idolize my car, but even she no longer interested in. I was worried only about death. I lost my sense of smell and sense of taste. I didn’t want to eat because I was dead. Conversations seemed like a waste of time and I stopped talking. I have there weren’t even any thoughts. “The man began to lose his hair, and he stopped brushing his teeth – it seemed to him that if the teeth turned black, it will be more consistent with the “image” of the dead man. But at the same time somewhere on a subconscious level, he realized that he was still alive. “I don’t there was no choice but to come to terms with what I did not have a way to actually die. It was a nightmare, “says Graham. He began to regularly go to the local cemetery: “I just felt like i could stay there. There I was closest to death. “The family still insisted that Graham go to the doctors, and they sent him for examination at the University of Liege in Belgium. “There came some man who says that he is dead!” – reported the secretary to the professor, to whom Graham came to the reception. Scanning showed that activity in the frontal and parietal zones the patient’s brain is too low, as if he were in a state sleep It took months of therapy and medication to the patient more or less returned to normal. Somewhat more common a kind of phobia like fear of death. Father suffered in particular Gogol. They say that it was this ailment that brought him to the grave. Most often those with this phobia fear that their heart will stop. For example, in a dream … They may even stop sleeping because of this. Insomnia and constant stress undermine their health, which can really be fatal. But the attraction to death can be not only a disease, but also a worldview. It called thanatology. A vivid example of this is the Goths. Representatives this informal movement believes that peace and happiness can found only in the afterlife, and in anticipation of the transition there yearn, read horror novels, compose poems and songs, draw pictures about otherworldly reality … Goths love to spend time in cemeteries (love of cemeteries is called taphophilia). When asked about the reason for this pastime, they answer that they like a sense of peace and tranquility, which is filled with the cemetery atmosphere. They give preference “Gothic” – ancient burials with beautiful, artsy tombstones. Alas, unlike the same Cotard syndrome, such a philosophy of life cannot be cured. Heal her and make informals enjoy ordinary life, rather than strive for games with death, maybe, probably, only time. Cause sooner or later young people will mature and they will have other interests.
