According to German professor Albrecht Classen (Albrecht Cool), all this is a myth, in fact there was no chastity belt never, except for modern, say, a chastity belt from rapists. Klassen recently released his new monograph on this a question in which it proves that numerous chastity belts, exhibited in museums, illustrated in books, actually made much later than the Middle Ages, in most cases in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. What for? Yes just for the entertainment of the public. These belts were paraded in the same museums to attract visitors, add some zest to gloomy tales of the Middle Ages, and so on.
But in written sources, says Albrecht, about the belt fidelity was written even by medieval authors. And they told about this is almost serious though, if you study these sources more meticulously, it is revealed, again, that this is only an allegorical detail that more indicates deceit and infidelity of a woman than on the historical truth.
