Scientists have reported the effects of permafrost thawing on the territory of Russia.
According to researchers, as a result of permafrost thawing some infrastructure will begin to collapse, and into the atmosphere a large greenhouse gas emission will occur. This was announced by the presenter Research Associate at the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute Alexey Ekainin.
A report published by scientists states that towards the end of this centuries of permafrost thaw an average of 3-4 meters.
Most of the territory of Russia is located in the cryosphere, representing permafrost, snow cover and sea ice.

Thawing processes will occur unevenly. Most this will actively occur along the edges of the perennial zone permafrost.
According to scientists, this zone has a quite tangible border, which, as thawed, will shift north. At present time at the border of permafrost are: Salekhard, Chita, Vorkuta, Ulan-Ude, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. By the end of the century on the border will be Igarka, Magadan, Yakutsk.
Scientists believe that the increase in average annual temperatures in Siberia will provide more comfortable living.
Some researchers believe that permafrost may discover places where ancient unknowns to science are well preserved microorganisms that may be life threatening person. So, for example, a few years ago in the northeast A group of researchers discovered Siberia in permafrost ancient virus, whose age exceeds 30 thousand years. Later it turned out that this virus is not dangerous to humans, however, where are the guarantees that the next find will be the same “peaceful”.
