MOMRI (Institute of Modern Media) together with the TV channel “Science” conducted another monitoring on the issue of which modern technology scares Russians more.
In the first place were concerns related to nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction. More than 14 percent of respondents they’re even afraid not so much of already accumulated weapons as of all new developments in this area.
In second place (12 percent of respondents) is Genetic Engineering. It is worth emphasizing that two years ago people, who were alarmed by animal cloning experiments and person, it was almost half. Today, Russians are scared also gene modification of food, DNA experiments human and much more in this field of knowledge.
And in third place were concerns about intensive development of artificial intelligence, computerization and distribution of neural networks. Moreover, the figure is 11 percent Respondents for two years has not changed.
And 2 percent of Russians are afraid of the andron collider and space threats. And if the first ones are mostly men, then the second is practically retired. Why so, no one knows.
And finally, if in 2016 a survey showed that 40 percent Russians are not afraid of anything at all, today this indicator dropped to 37 percent. But by 6 percent (from 13 to 19) the number of respondents who find it difficult to answer increased what most of modern technology scares them.
If you take the run of fears by age criteria, then youth more afraid of robotization and AI dominance, apparently fearing for their jobs, but older Russians mostly care genetic engineering and weapons of mass destruction, presumably all this is due to the care of children and grandchildren, which is characteristic of old people.
