Most people can remember that the largest diamond was Kullinian nugget, weighing 3106 carats, found (completely by chance) a mountain inspector in 1905 in South Africa. After unsuccessful cut, this nugget has turned into nine large and almost a hundred small diamonds. The largest of them is the Big Star Africa “530 carats (but not the largest in the world, there is still 546 carat diamond “Golden Jubilee”).

And everyone who is familiar with this information will certainly make a mistake, because today a much larger nugget of the world is found, and or rather – our universe. Its weight is about ten billion trillion carats. Impressive, isn’t it! Found this Nugget in the constellation Centaur astronomers – Travis Metcalf and his colleagues from the Harvard Center for Astrophysics.
The space nugget, in fact, is an extinct sun (like ours), which turned into a huge diamond block with a diameter of four thousand kilometers. Astronomers have named this largest diamond of the world by the female name – “Lucy”. True, it will get to her not easy: we are separated by neither more nor less, but as many as fifty light years.
As Travis Metcalf remarked, our sun will also go out in five billions of years, and in two more – will turn into approximately the same huge diamond. You don’t even know what’s easier – to fly to “Lucy” or wait for the same great diamond to be born in own solar system? ..
