Researchers say men’s noses are longer and larger than noses in women. The fact is that the muscles of the nose of men are more developed than women’s. This is because men drive more active lifestyle and, as a rule, have a greater body weight, therefore, they need more oxygen.
However, the most interesting thing is that the noses of modern people are smaller than the noses of our distant ancestors, including Neanderthals (the nearest relatives of a modern person). Scientists have suggested that the human size of the nose is directly related to the necessary amount of oxygen consumption for normal functioning organism. And since the skeletons of ancient people indicate that they had a greater body mass than modern people – this is only confirms this assumption by scientists.
However, some experts do not fully agree with the result. this study. They believe that before adolescence male and female noses are almost identical in size. The size the nose of a man begins to increase during puberty, which in principle coincides with a more intense oxygen consumption as a result of increased physical activity. On average, the nose men are becoming 10 percent larger than women with your nose.
After analyzing these data, scientists came to the conclusion that evolution human nose will cause our descendants to have even smaller nose sizes. Our distant ancestors were more active lifestyle and had more massive bodies (respectively, and noses), providing sufficient saturation of the body with oxygen.
Modern people, unlike Neanderthals, are not forced to to roam, hunt and escape from predators, therefore we lead less active lifestyle, we have less body weight, which means that we need lower oxygen consumption and lower sized noses for this. Scientists concluded that amid evolutionary decline in human activity and body weight in future noses of our descendants may decrease significantly in sizes. Although then men’s noses will still be slightly larger women’s.
