Since ancient times, the Yakuts have been afraid of the dead. Of course, anyone is afraid of them a living person, however, according to Yakut beliefs, if the deceased dream of you in reality or in a dream, it means one thing: a dead spirit trying to pull you into the next world. Especially if it’s the spirit of the deceased relative. Therefore, the Yakuts are not at all happy when they dream relatives who went to the grave.
Of course, there are exceptions. There are cases when the dead came in a dream to someone from relatives and reported about hidden in secret place of treasure. However, such stories are extremely rare. how as a rule, to see loved ones in a dream is not good. By the way, and these dreams are pretty much the same type: the dead tries to lure a person somewhere in the dark, or even dragged there by force. About similar incident and will be discussed in the following story.
Breathing outside the window
In the Soviet years, a lone pensioner lived in one of the Yakut villages. His house was spacious, but there were no relatives left – twenty years ago the only brother died. Therefore, the man decided to take one room, and soon a young girl settled in with him, Trained at a rural hospital. The owner and the guest got along well with each other and, as it happens, talked for a long time evenings in the kitchen.

One winter evening, the trainee was returning from the hospital and, approaching the house, I heard a crunch of snow around his corner, as if someone shifted there from foot to foot. It was dark and the girl couldn’t nothing really to consider. She decided that it was her master, however it was embarrassing that the man was panting and moaning, and at times wheezing altogether and suffocating. “Who is there?” Asked the perplexed tenant, and the fuss around the corner immediately stopped.
Feeling something was amiss, the girl entered the house and saw an old man who was preparing dinner as usual. Then she is under some pretended to go out into the courtyard again and walked around the house, but no one met. In order not to scare the owner, the tenant decided not to speak him about strange sounds. They sat down to dinner, and then the girl noticed that the old man looks very sad. To questions, he replied that he lay down after dinner, take a nap and saw in a dream his younger brother. That called him, but the man refused to go and woke up, shackled depressing dreary feeling. “This is a bad omen,” he concluded and, without supper, went to bed. Soon went to her room and girl.

Some time after she went to bed, outside, there was a creak of snow, and then a familiar breath, wheezing and intermittent, as if someone had been running for a long time and now cannot catch my breath. Sheltered with a blanket over her head, the girl in horror thought what to do if a stranger wants to enter the house. Meanwhile judging by the sounds, he went to the window in the master’s bedroom – and he tossed and turned, something alarmingly mumbled asleep. However soon everything was quiet, and the girl herself quietly fell into a dream.
The next morning, the tenant first left the house and examined the snow Around him. Seeing no sign, she breathed a sigh of relief. But the awakened owner was even more gloomy than yesterday. “Night me dreamed again brother. Now he did not persuade me, but knocked me down and, like a beast, dragged into the darkness, “- said the old man sad the news. Having gathered courage, the girl talked about how twice I heard the creak of footsteps and terrible breathing. After that, the owner darkened the clouds and doomed said: “Well, yes, it was mine younger brother. He just died of tuberculosis. I still remember how he wheezed and gasped in bed. Now I’m not a tenant either. ”
And indeed, soon the old man fell ill with pneumonia, from which so and failed to recover. The tenant carefully looked after him, and the owner bequeathed her his big house. Nothing supernatural after his death, the girl’s life no longer happened.
Chest evening
Even more than the dead, the Yakuts are afraid of otherworldly entities, who may be among the living after the death of a loved one. Here there is even such a thing as “chest evening.” So in Yakut villages are called the evening of the day when someone died.
It is believed that with the onset of dusk, spirits come to the house, who need to escort the soul of the deceased to the next world. The boundary between our thin worlds are thinning, and on the other hand may appear uninvited guests. Therefore, in order not to attract their attention to themselves, in trunk evenings you can’t have fun, laugh, talk loudly and make noise. Such a tradition still exists in many Yakut villages.
Our story begins with the death of an ancient old man, which had children, and grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren. Naturally, that numerous grieving relatives gathered from the surrounding villages in the house of the deceased to arrange for him a worthy funeral. Guys quickly rallied, and since it was summer outside, then drive children home was impossible. Their games were accompanied by laughter, screams and noise. Busy adults tugged at times guys, demanding silence, but that did not help.

When it was getting dark, the game of salki was over, and it was time hide and seek. The children fled to different corners, and one boy began to drive. He found a few hidden, and then went into the winter a house that was used as a warehouse in the summer. The boy examined everything the room and did not find anyone. Already about to leave, he noticed in a large wardrobe in the hall several players at once.
The child opened the door and saw jackets hanging on his shoulders and coat. Rummaging among things, he suddenly stumbled a hand on something cold, slippery. Then someone moved in the closet – and all the hangers collapsed at once, and behind them the boy saw a high bent man with glowing red eyes. Hit my nose right away disgusting cadaveric smell, and the child rushed headlong out. The rest of the children came running to his desperate cries. They are the whole crowd burst into the winter house and opened the closet, but nobody was there found – even the shoulders with clothes hung in place …

It is not surprising that the driver was not believed and continued to play. Soon, another boy went in search of hidden people. IN at one point he went into the stable and saw a man in the far corner, squatting in the shade. “I see you, come out!” – joyfully exclaimed the boy. However, the unknown pressed his hand to his mouth, as if asked to remain silent, and then began to giggle softly in a nasty, obviously inhuman voice. Stepping closer boy I saw a short and chubby man with huge shiny eyes on forehead, round belly, thin limbs and long tongue hanging from the mouth to the chest. The little man stopped giggle, took his hand from his mouth and reached for the boy with his tongue, as wanting to lick it.
Searing heart-rendingly, the child flew into the yard with a bullet. He is everything told the adults, and here the first boy “for the company” admitted parents in that saw evil spirits. Adults, of course, angry, saying: “We told you to be quiet and not have fun! “And the children were immediately driven home.
