During archaeological excavations in the south of Luxor, researchers 20 sarcophagi were found, in which, most likely, mummies. Found sarcophagi made of wood. This was reported Ministry of Antiquities of Egypt.

These sarcophagi were found in the Asasif necropolis, located in the midst of the ruins of the ancient city of Thebes. Coffins are dated three eras: the Middle Kingdom (2040-1640 BC), the New kingdom (1550-1069 BC) and the Late Period (644-332 years BC.).

According to representatives of the Ministry, this find is one of the largest and most significant in recent years. Sarcophagi bye decided not to open.

Earlier, near the Djoser Pyramid, archaeologists from Poland found several dozens of mummies, whose age was about 2 thousand years. Most of those buried were subjected to “standard” procedures. embalming, and then buried in the sand.
