Over the past four decades, the Greenland ice sheet significantly melted, which had a tangible effect on North Atlantic Current. It is a warm and powerful oceanic maritime movement, representing the northeastern continuation Gulf Stream, largely determines the climate of European continent.
World scientists have studied sediments on the ocean floor, the state of corals and the composition of the ice, which allowed them to reconstruct the picture of change, occurring with the North Atlantic over the last century. The results were disappointing: the course undergoes changes that have never been observed before. It cools and slows down, which may threaten Europe in the future terrifying consequences.
For many decades, the Greenland ice sheet has been melting under the impact of global warming. Less salty and colder water resulting from melting moves to the upper words of water masses. Meeting the warm water of the Gulf Stream currents, it cools and slows it down. This process, of course, cannot lead to a new ice age on Earth, however will certainly have a significant impact on the climate of Europe. Specialists already say that the construction of new climate models should be subject to change temperature and speed of the North Atlantic Current.
Speaking about the consequences of this process, it is worth saying that in First of all, they will hit the ecological system of the ocean. Fishing and, as a consequence, the well-being of coastal regions will suffer greatly. Sea level will begin to rise. If the glaciers of Greenland continue to melt at such a pace, the Atlantic conveyor will stop working and sung by writers and mild European winters will become as cold as poets Russian. All this will cause catastrophic damage to well-being. The European Union.
