Indian election commission banned the media country information publish election forecasts made astrologers, clairvoyants, fortunetellers, sorcerers, and other people, able to receive such information from above. Henceforth Indian print media, radio stations and television channels will not be able to deal promulgation of such forecasts 48 hours before the start of voting and even after them.
A rather strange bill, given that the Republic India is a secular state. Perhaps the fault is that simple Indians are very superstitious and sacredly believe in any predictions authoritative sensors. If a well-known medium prophesies that on one person or another wins the election, then many citizens can to go and vote for this candidate only for that the reason that in the future he already allegedly won, and therefore deserves all support in the present. It turns out, so to speak, self-fulfilling prophecy.
Indian officials refuse to clearly argue the need for a new ban. However, they say astrologers and psychics are not authoritative enough who can publicly talk about elections, and therefore they just confuse and chaos this process, which doesn’t permissible. Local newspaper “Dainik Jagran” thanks to new law already managed to fall into disfavor of the authorities, since its employees recently decided to predict the outcome of legislative elections meeting of the state of Uttar Pradesh, although they did not call themselves clairvoyants and did not rely on any prophecies.
