Siberian geologists report that after about 20 million years Eurasia – the largest continent of our planet – will be split in two. The split, according to the calculations of domestic scientists, will occur according to Earth’s most voluminous fresh lake, that is, along Lake Baikal. Employees of the Sobolev Institute of Geology and Mineralogy, as well as experts at Novosibirsk State University are convinced that at this point the ocean will appear in the distant future.

Russian researchers have long been studying the history of Lake Baikal, tectonic processes occurring in it and the accumulation of precipitation in Baikal rift zone. This zone is a deep fault. the earth’s crust, having a length of about 1,500 kilometers and extending from southwest to northeast. Here, presumably, there is a divergence of the earth’s crust. Baikal the rift zone, scientists say, is slowly but steadily expands, and somewhere in 20 million years it will lead to that Eurasia will be split into two parts. So you can conclude that if our country remains by then in the current borders, then it, in turn, will be divided in two by new by the ocean.

It is worth noting that earlier no one studied the topic so seriously and did not make similar forecasts for the Baikal rift zone. Besides in addition, now all this information has been translated into English and became available to foreign scientists who, if desired, can to contribute to the study of this issue. Foreign experts already they say that the loss of Baikal – the largest natural fresh water reservoir – will become an irreplaceable loss for the Earth and of humanity. If our civilization, of course, is still alive after so many centuries.

However, by then, perhaps, our planet will not change one civilization, and one that will be destined to survive the process the separation of Europe and Asia, it’s not even guessed that humanity foresaw this disaster 20 million years ago …
