Siberian cities can not stand the global warming

A team of Russian-American scientists made a disappointing conclusion: in the coming decades, Siberian cities of Russia may disappear from the face of the earth. The fact is that they all stand on the eternal permafrost, which currently covers up to 60 percent Russian territory and almost all of Eastern Siberia.

The global warming that is observed on our planet, touches the permafrost of Siberia, thereby bearing capacity the soil here will decrease even by the most conservative assumptions by 25 percent, and for the most pessimistic – as much as 95 percent.

The first such unfavorable urban thawing of soil will feel Anadyr and Salekhard, where the destruction will begin high-rise buildings and the emergence of huge funnels by 2020. Norilsk and Yakutsk are more lucky, since the catastrophic warming will affect these cities no earlier than 2040. However already after 2050, almost all the cities of Siberia will be in distress.

Of course, the new construction of housing and industrial facilities, most likely will now be carried out taking into account the eternal melting permafrost. But what to do with old high-rise buildings? ..
