UNESCO is sounding the alarm: by the end of this century on Earth may half the languages disappear. Today there are more than seven thousand, but two thousand languages are spoken by nationalities, of which no more thousands of people in each. Naturally, these languages will disappear in first of all.
What language do you speak and think? Turns out to be the most common on Earth is the Chinese language. Of course everyone I understand why – in view of the huge population of China. Russian language in this plan is far behind, it is not global, like, let’s say English, and at the same time, the population of Russia cannot boast of its significance compared to the same China. Nevertheless, especially thanks to the USSR, the Russian language is quite popular in the world, it is one of the six most common languages in the world.
By the way, note that English is also not in the second place after the Chinese, but only in third place, behind the Spanish. After all it is in Spanish that almost all of South America speaks.
According to UNESCO, almost the entire population of the earth says today in twelve major languages - 96 percent of earthlings. AND only the remaining four percent of the world’s people are carriers of those seven thousand languages that are almost doomed to extinction. Languages of diverse African peoples and South-East Asia.
UNESCO calls on governments of all countries to strongly supported and preserved the endangered languages of those nationalities, who live in their territories. However, scientists understand that extinction of minor languages and globalization of major languages - natural process, so there will be more dead languages and they will remain only for specialists who, thanks to them, study history or explore individual phenomena of human life.
