John Lowe, a 60-year-old Singaporean diving instructor, spent four days and three nights, drifting in the South China Sea and having at only a life buoy, a small buoy and useless backpack after his boat rolled over. About it a man recently told reporters of the Chinese newspaper Lianhe Zaobao.
… John Lowe was preparing for a leisurely dive off the coast of the island Tioman, when a strong wave hit his anchor boat – and the man was in the water. Before he even realized that happened, the boat sank. All that John has left is life buoy, buoy and backpack, but at first it’s not too much worried, believing that he could swim to the ground. However, no matter how tried, Low could not overcome the strength of the sea current. By 10 o’clock in the evening he no longer saw the shore and began to panic. Four the next day the man was at sea completely alone, without food and drinking water.
At one point, when feelings of loneliness and despair were especially strong, he began to talk with those who composed him a company of objects, calling a buoy, which clung to a “brother”, and Rolex watch on his wrist – “boy”.
However, besides moral, there were physical tortures. Scorching the sun burned John so badly that the first photographs taken after his salvation, they are simply horrified: the skin on the face and body of a man became crispy and flaky.
The 60-year-old instructor said that as his condition worsened, he began to see strange pictures and hear voices that advised him to detach from the buoy and swim in open sea – there, they say, his salvation … Fortunately, the man did not heed to these tips and for the sake of my loved ones decided to fight for life before the end.
On the fourth night of this nightmare experience, a miracle happened: with the passing ship “Diogo Cao” spotted a buoy and lifted half-dead John aboard. All that he could remember about his salvation is the thought that appeared in a blurred consciousness: “I saved, now I can sleep. ”
John Lowe spent two weeks in the hospital, including six days – in the intensive care unit. Doctors said he suffered lung infection, renal failure due to severe dehydration, and also received sunburns throughout the body. TO fortunately, the man recovered completely and recently met with Diogo Cao team to thank the sailors for saving their of life.
