Huge craters were discovered from a satellite on the Yamal Peninsula. Scientists explain the origin of such amazing and unsafe underground gas release failures.

In their opinion, from permafrost with the help of such craters there is a methane eruption, which is most likely associated with global warming on the planet, including Yamal. Moreover, the researchers even calculated that the power of the explosion upon formation of these funnels in TNT equivalent was not less than eleven tons of explosives.

These craters are dangerous, scientists say, methane from underground, it can catch fire at any moment. And not far from one of the craters there is even a gas plant …

In addition to several large ones, dozens were discovered from the satellite small funnels of similar origin, which causes additional concerns as such entities may pose a serious threat to gas and oil complexes, northern cities.

By the way, the first such crater was recorded back in 2013, he was then discovered from a helicopter. Note that some scholars are inclined to the fact that the cause of the formation of such failures in Yamal became not methane, but the accumulation of underground ice, which in connection with global warming began to melt.
