American engineers developed the concept of the so-called dendrohod – a unique car on which it will be possible literally ride through dense forests, not just on the ground, but directly on top of the lush tree crowns. Future vehicle dubbed “Canopi” in honor of a modern sport, based on the movement of people from one tree to another.
Any biologist will tell you that approximately half of the Earth’s flora make up trees growing densely to each other in humid rainforests. The best example is the well-known Amazon. Numerous insects, primates live in crowns, birds, bats and other living creatures representing a large interest for science. It’s just not so easy to get to them – that’s why Americans want to create Canopi.
Dendrohod, which will allow specialists, without flying, to observe forests from above, reminiscent of its functionality and appearance off-road all-terrain vehicle, however instead of massive wheels with thick protectors, it has balls filled with volatile gas. IN depending on the modification, the machine will have four or six such “wheels”. The gas contained in them will be lighter than air, therefore a car can easily travel along tree branches.

Transparent balls are attached to an elongated cabin made of extremely lightweight composite materials. Canopi can accommodate in yourself up to six people. A cabin with huge windows will allow passengers look around. Researchers will be able to discover portholes to take samples of vegetation, catch animals or throwing inflatable rafts, serving as platforms for work scientists.
To lower dendrohods to trees, you need a helicopter or some other aircraft – for example, an airplane. Research team members will be able to descend to the ground and go upstairs with an electric hoist. The car itself will also run on electricity, it is equipped with six electric motors with a capacity of fifteen kilowatts.
Despite the fact that an amazing transport will be created in the first turn for the people of science, it is possible that dendrohods will want get locals and tourism workers. After all moving over trees is faster and safer than moving around forest. And those who are fed up with the picturesque nature under the green tent, will be able to look at the forest from an absolutely stunning perspective. It is for you not air, but not the surface of the earth – walks along the tops trees may well become a favorite for many tourists travel …
