Specialists from Stanford University for over ten years developed a special unit that can be called a kind of computer for working with magnetic water. This the computer does not start the game and does not allow to engage web surfing, its purpose is different – to enable the user to manipulate microscopic objects.

According to Manu Prakash, one of the inventors, bits in each computing device are tangible physical objects. Thus, any information processing can feel free to call manipulations with matter. In an innovative device the minimum units of Americans are water droplets, filled with nanoparticles ferromagnet. Such drops turn into liquid magnets that can be controlled by means of an electromagnetic field.

The absence or presence in the cell of the device of such a drop corresponds to zero and one generally accepted in computer technology accordingly, while magnetized on the substrate strips determine the movement of microscopic objects. it allows you to use water drops to implement key computing operations.

The goal of the project, as the developers assure, is not to manipulate information faster (modern computers like it’s easy to guess, here is beyond competition), but interact more effectively at the micro level with physical objects. However, the inventors do not exclude that after significant improvements “drip computer” will be able to fully process data – very fast and efficient.
