US meteorologists recorded anomalous near the North Pole a thunderstorm, which in conditions uncharacteristic for a given area hit 48 times. This abnormal phenomenon was reported by the publication. National Geographic.
Last weekend, scientists recorded several dozen lightning strikes 480 kilometers from the North Pole. Concerning a weather service located in Fairbanks published special press release. It talks about northern thunderstorms, who only remember Alaskan old-timers.
For specialists, the abnormal phenomenon has become a real mystery, since for the formation of lightning special conditions are necessary in atmosphere. It is necessary that cold and dry air is above a layer of warmer and wetter air. And in those latitudes like phenomena have not yet been observed, since warm air and humid lower do not appear here at the same time.
48 lightning strikes were recorded by the Vaisala GLD360 network, which with GPS technology captures very powerful flashes on ten-kilometer distance, including in distant territories Arctic.
After receiving information about the outbreaks, scientists were alarmed, as this a clear sign of climate change on the planet. Scientists are not excluded that partly the occurrence of lightning could be affected by smoke from fires occurring beyond the Arctic Circle.
