Artificial sun in Norway

A photo from open sources

The small Norwegian town of Ruecken, in which from behind the mountains the sun falls only in the summer, we decided to light with the help of giant mirrors. Three and a half thousand people live literally at the bottom. Very narrow and deep gorges. The sun appears here in the summer and then only for a couple of hours. In winter, the picture is depressing. It is dark here even in the afternoon – because of the high mountains the sun’s rays fall only on neighboring peaks. And so it goes from September to March. The townspeople did not wait for favors from nature and decided to build your sun. True, the path from idea to embodiment took nearly a hundred years. This time turned around for several months. Helicopters delivered huge mirror panels to the top of the mountain, where engineers are already accurate to the millimeter verified and established the future luminary. Until the last moment no one of residents did not believe in the success of the enterprise. The jokes ended when three months after the start of construction, exactly at noon the central square was lit by the first rays of the sun in the history of the city. Now 50 square meters of mirrors will illuminate almost the entire bottom. area – and this is about 600 square meters. Mayor of the city is not accidental remembered about Italy. It is there in the small village of Viganella, which is also sandwiched between the mountains, a few years ago came up with use artificial sun as lighting. Residents now refuse to leave the main square before sunset. On the the central square of Ruecken is a monument to that very the city’s founding father, who dreamed of giving the sun to his compatriots.
