British young scientists analyzed conditions on surface of Titan, the satellite of Saturn, and concluded that a person will be able to fly it with a special suit with wings, previously accelerated to the speed of Usain Bolt – 11 meters per second, says an article in a journal Physics Special Topics.
Today there are many devices that allow to a person to soar by jumping from an airplane or a high cliff. Despite the absence of any advantages when flying on Earth, such devices can help astronauts who landed on low gravity planets, fast and relatively “free” move long distances without using rovers or other expensive appliances that need an external source energy.
Hannah Lerman of the University of Leicester (UK) and her colleagues tried to assess whether a similar flight to Titan, a satellite of Saturn, whose atmosphere is considered the closest the likeness of the air shell of the Earth. The authors of the article noticed that the gravitational force on the surface of Titan is relatively small, in 10 times less than on Earth.

Together with a high density of the atmosphere, this feature Saturn’s largest satellite allows us to hope that attaching small wings to the human body will allow him fly freely in the air of Titan. The authors of the article calculated the lifting force of such wings and calculated their area and speed Acceleration, the minimum required for take-off from the surface.
It turned out that the wings of the costume should have been enough large so that a person with an average mass and speed of running could take off – according to the calculations of physicists, their area exceeds 4.7 square meters, which is equivalent to the area of two desks. Especially fast people like Jamaican runner Usain Bolt, can do with relatively small wings with an area of 1.4 square meters, which will integrate them into Suits for walking on the surface of Titan.
Faculty of Physics and Astronomy, University of Leicester (Great Britain) publishes the Physics Special scientific journal annually Topics, fourth-year authors and editors faculty. All articles submitted to the journal pass mandatory review, and participation in its work is evaluated teachers and is necessary to obtain a diploma.
At the same time, beginning British scientists are interested in an unusual circle by that. For example, last year they found out whether it is possible to heat room heat generated by members of the British Parliament in intense discussions, and also proved that Jack Sparrow and To Will Turner, characters in Pirates of the Caribbean, who the film goes under water, breathing air under an inverted boat, oxygen would be enough for three whole hours.
