In the Chinese village of Yanchun, Fujian Province made a statement, that the sensational Buddha statue, which conceals inside the mummy of a monk, stolen from here almost two decades ago. Artifact according to residents of the settlement, similar to the statue of Zhangong Liuquan – quite revered local saint.
The world scientific community knew about a dead monk inside the article Buddha before, but this fact was widely publicized in February this year, when the exhibit went to the international Budapest exhibition. Yangchun residents saw this report and allegedly identified artifact relic that they stole in the mid-nineties years. This conjecture has been indirectly confirmed by the Netherlands. by scientists who examined the statue and reported that it was smelted in XI-XII centuries. It was in that era that Chinese saint Zhangong Luquan voluntarily subjected himself to mummification. Statue at the end of the last century acquired a wealthy Dutch collector whose name is not called. The deal happened just six months after it the disappearance was discovered in the village.
Chinese officials sent specialists to Yangchun who will investigate and find out whether the claims of residents are fair sat down to the Dutch. If archaeologists confirm this information, PRC government will start negotiations with the Netherlands over relics return.
In the case of obtaining irrefutable evidence that in the statue contains exactly the remains of Zhangong Liuquan, China high evaluates her chances of reuniting the Yanchun residents with an artifact, since the Netherlands signed the UNESCO Convention in 2009, obliging to return all cultural values to their historical homeland.
