Can an ultrafast transport “Hyper Loop” Elon Mask really be built?

Billionaire and entrepreneur Elon Musk on August 12 this year revealed details about his project “Hyper Loop” – futuristic ultrafast transport system that can transport passengers at a fantastic speed of 1,220 kilometers per hour.

The possibilities and advantages of ultrafast transport are innumerable, but with them come significant technical and political difficulties says James Powell, an American physicist and co-inventor of the Maglev superconducting transport system, which uses super-powerful magnets to accelerate trains.

For example, traveling at such a speed requires laying paths that will avoid hills and turns.

Hyper Loop project is designed to accelerate two-meter capsules in low pressure pipes. These capsules will move on air cushion instead of conventional rails, allowing them to reach fantastic speeds.

According to the Mask himself, the Hyper Loop will become more effective and a more cost-effective alternative to the California project Bullet Rail – Nearly 70 Billion Transport the system, which according to the plan should connect the main cities California including Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego

Musk says any major investment in transportation should have comparable returns to them, and should only be done in if they actually represent a better alternative moving or flying.

“Whether the Hyperpetley system succeeds or not in laying itself roads to reality depends on how many people get the benefits of building it, “says James Powell. And adds that this decision will almost certainly be colored a combination of economic and political considerations.

Musk himself called the Hyperpetley project “low priority,” stating that he will continue to give most of his attention more important programs: Tesla electric car and missile companies SpaceX. However, he is still ready to be a key investor in this project. And although Musk himself insists that the Hyper Loop be open source initiative, he is ready to develop a small prototype, which will demonstrate the operability of the concept.

And he adds that since Hyper Loop is not a high priority project, prototype development may take from three to four years old.
