Today, according to researchers, on the surface of the lake there are at least three thousand karst funnels formed in earthquakes or heavy rains when drained voids in the bowels of the Dead Sea begin to fall down and on them deep funnels arise in the place. Some of the salt lake craters expand over the years, while others appear in just a few minutes.
On average, the water level in the Dead Sea is reduced by one annually meter. Because of this, the sea coast will soon become unsuitable for tourist holidays.
