A major geological fault Garlock woke up and came in movement for the first time in 500 years. Reports Edition Science.
The reason the shift occurred was a powerful earthquake. In the summer of 2019, scientists recorded a whole a series of earthquakes that were quite destructive force.
According to experts, the Garlock fault can provoke the occurrence of new earthquakes with a magnitude of about 8 points. At this scientists do not give accurate predictions about the timing of their offensive, since this area is not well understood, but nature can behave unpredictably.
Garlock is a geological fault 250 kilometers and runs through the southwestern states of the United States. Scientists record the annual movement of the fault 2-11 mm per year. To the present time seismic activity of the Garlock fault was considered low.
