In 2014, engineer Edwin Van Ryuimbeke from France created realistic robot “Bionic Bird”, looking like a bird and believable flapping wings. Having received many rave reviews, the specialist set himself an even more ambitious task: to design an electric butterfly that would behave like real lepidoptera. A few days ago, a French craftsman finally introduced to the world his new unique brainchild called “MetaFly”.

The length of the bizarre mechanism is 19 centimeters, and the wingspan is 29 centimeters. Of course, most butterflies on the planet have much more modest dimensions, but do not forget that in the tropics there are giants whose wingspan reaches 30 centimeters, so a special discrepancy with nature there is no. “MetaFly” flies exactly like a real butterfly, quickly flapping wings, and the device is controlled by a remote remote control, the radius of which reaches 100 meters.

The robot weighs only 10 grams. Tiny Li-ion Battery feeds the motor with an aluminum radiator, which is responsible for swinging flexible wings. A 15-minute battery charge lasts for 8 minutes. The speed of movement “MetaFly” is up to 12 kilometers per hour. Most elements of the electronic butterfly are made of carbon fiber, biaxially oriented polypropylene film, liquid crystal polymer and other incredibly light materials.

It is reported that if the device goes on sale, its price will be about 150 dollars.
