Scientists of Russia (NITU “MISiS”), Sweden and Germany together created a thermoelectric material, which in the future can will use to charge various gadgets. It will be enough place on your hand a bracelet made of this material, and it will be possible to charge the watch or smartphone almost endlessly. About this development published an article in the publication Advanced Functional Materials.
Thermoelectric materials are a compound or metal alloys that can convert heat into electricity due to temperature differences. However, alloys of metals give a not very high efficiency – approximately 10%, and for greater efficiency, it is necessary to heat the plates to several hundreds of degrees.
Scientists after years of searching have found an alternative thermoelectrics in polymeric materials. These materials may work even at room temperature, while not toxic and has low thermal conductivity. In addition, these materials are very flexible, allowing you to give them any necessary shape.
According to one member of a research group, existing material characteristics are able to convert heat emitted by the human body, into electrical energy. For example, if you do bracelet for watches or even a case for a smartphone, you can constantly power these devices without using existing standard charging device.
