Genetic scientists plan to start experiments soon to slow the aging process in people, told RIA Novosti participating in the international conference of geneticists in Sochi, Brian Kennedy, president of the US Tank Institute, specializing in basic and applied research on aging (Buck Institute for Research on Aging).
The third international conference “Genetics” has started in Sochi aging and longevity. “At a meeting organized by Russian Foundation for Life Extension, from dozens of countries came the largest researchers on the mechanisms of aging and longevity, the nature of cancer and other age-related diseases. Together they share their research findings and discuss possible ways of development of science in the fight against human aging.

He specified that the progress in studying the mechanisms of aging is enormous, since 30 years ago, scientists did not know how to control aging. At the same time, 20 years ago, genetics began to detect the possibility of slowing down the aging process in simple organisms, such as flies or yeast cultures, worms, and ten years ago people began to identify genes that affect the process aging.
“Well, now we have a drug that slows down aging in mice. The only problem is how to go to the next stage, and already from animal models to experiments to help understand how to extend people’s lives, “Kennedy added.
According to him, scientists do not want to conduct clinical studies that will take 30 years and wait for them to complete, when the people who participated in the experiment die.
