These large crustaceans, whose length reaches 36 centimeters (known record holder with a length of 76 centimeters), became participants unusual experiment organized by state university Louisiana.

Scientists put three dead alligators under water in the hope that marine life feasts on reptile bodies and isopods don’t disappointed researchers. Bizarre arthropods being one of the oldest complex organisms on our planet, more often just eat carrion, but sometimes they can attack sedentary animals.

In order to find out the nutrition features of such old-timers of ours planets biologists captured on video like giant isopods interact at a depth of 2000 meters with dead alligators.

Crustaceans very quickly found prey, gnawed reptiles skins and ate to a state of complete immobility. The experiment showed that dead whales, reptiles and large fish may become a food source for any marine animals even in virtually uninhabited corners of the underwater world.
