Iceland’s largest glacier Vatnajokull (Vatnajokul) – second largest in Europe – suddenly began to melt like ice cream in the summer: on huge holes with a diameter of up to a thousand meters appeared on it.

According to scientists, the reason for this may be global climate change on our planet, pole shift, and recently intensified seismic and volcanic activity in the territory of this island state. It turns out that the earth lying under centuries-old ice first opens behind many thousands of years, that is, since this massive ice a cover has been formed.

The researchers believe that a huge influence on the melting of the glacier had the Eyyafyallayekyul volcano, which in 2010 brought a lot unrest and inconvenience, both the inhabitants of Iceland and Europe as a whole. However, this monster can wake up the even more powerful Katla volcano, who has been dozing since 1955. In general, all these processes are increased activity of thirty active volcanoes, as well as bursts of volcanic activity this summer and led to that the Vatnajokul glacier began to turn into a kind of nostril ice.

How does Iceland threaten to melt this glacier? Certain environmental disaster, of course, is knocking at the door, especially the inhabitants of the island state are concerned about possible floods, however and climate change itself can create considerable problems. Generally however, increased melting of Arctic glaciers can cause serious environmental issues in Europe and North America, i.e. today’s anomaly is strange funnels in Vatnajokul’s ice Iceland – this is only the first sign of the upcoming global changes in this area of the globe.
