World ecologists sound the alarm: in the Gulf of Mexico in the west Atlantic Ocean is growing rapidly the second largest on Earth, an oceanic dead spot. This huge area is practically completely deprived of oxygen, therefore it is almost uninhabited: in it can no longer live fish, shellfish and other important ecosystems marine organisms. This lifeless site was first discovered last year and since then it has increased significantly in sizes.

According to the forecasts of American scientists, by the end of the current the dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico will reach an area of 17 thousand square kilometers, stretching from Texas to Louisiana, and in next year will exceed the area of Israel. Total on the planet today there are about five hundred such spots, however, which formed off the coast of the United States, is growing right from unprecedented speed and threatens to break all the records in size. If it will continue like this, in this region we should expect a real environmental disaster.

Who is to blame for the emergence and growth of this dead spots?

Of course, the lifeless zone did not appear here by itself. Officially responsible for what is happening, the US authorities blame American farmers. Fertilizers that are used on the local fields constantly fall into the Mississippi River, which in turn flows into the bay. Phosphorus and nitrogen, which are the main components of these fertilizers provoke intense flowering of unicellular seaweed. As the algae grows and multiplies, they are absorbed all oxygen, causing the region of the ocean to become direct sense of the dead.

However, conspiracy theorists do not agree with the conclusions of scientists, believing that the main reason for the proliferation of the dead zone in the gulf of mexico are not agricultural waste, but the carnivorous bacterium Cynthia, artificially bred by american scientists in a laboratory and then hastily, without proper study of the consequences of this experiment, released into the bay to fight oil spilled into huge quantities after an accident on the company’s oil production platform “British Petroleum”. Unfortunately, the bacterium Cynthia (more about read the article “Artificial American bacteria”) preferred oil the underwater world of the Gulf of Mexico, and demonstrating tremendous “gluttony”, rapid reproduction and resistance to any means of dealing with it. By the way, scientists are so and have not yet found a remedy against Cynthia, and therefore felled with sick to healthy, that is, with his criminal negligence and shortsightedness on the ordinary work of farmers who notice and always used phosphorus and nitrogen as fertilizers, but for some reason it didn’t harm before Gulf of Mexico …
