During 2014, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia 11,000 computer crimes have been recorded. Theft and Fraud accounted for 41 percent of cybercrime. Recall a year earlier, the figure was 30 percent.

As experts explained, in reality these offenses at least five times more. Millions are calculated only email hacking cases. Dmitry Volkov, managing director Group-IB Incident Investigation Department says at least one hundred thousand attempts to steal money per year occur. He also explains that in 2013, cybercriminals in Russia and CIS countries stole two and a half billion dollars. Behind last year there is no data yet, but it’s clear that this indicator significantly higher than the previous one.

In this case, official statistics take into account only statements received from the victims. But people rarely turn to Ministry of Internal Affairs with statements regarding DDoS attacks, theft of passwords and logins.

The main difficulty in the investigation is cross-border nature of such crimes. Steal money scammers can in Russia, and cash them out – in other states.

What remains strange in this matter is that in our country, hackers do not so far equated to ordinary criminals. So, an ordinary thief, whoever stole a large sum will receive 10-15 years of imprisonment, and a hacker, stolen as much can hope for a suspended sentence. That’s it turns out that we are equating hackers with minors.
