AANOS (American Academy of Surgeons) Conference held at days in Maryland, remembered by many of the fact that on it Italian neurosurgeon Sergio Canavero made a statement about that in 2017 he will be able to transplant his head.
Let’s first understand – why is this needed? It turns out in a head transplant is of practical value since it can fight many oncological diseases of the brain, such the operation also applies to patients with diseases of motion neurons (recall Stephen Hawking), various paralytics, and so on.
By the way, scientists carried out a monkey head transplant back in the distant 1970, however, is not entirely successful – the animal lived for 9 days, and after the body rejected a foreign organ.
Sergio Canavero is going to carry out his unique operation in London, and the donor will be a person in the extreme stage of the brain death, but not yet dead completely.
Despite the fact that the Italian neurosurgeon, as they say, trying to work out everything to the smallest detail, in his operation many scientists see an element of unethicality, since the new personality (and its consider on the head), will receive a completely different body in terms of DNA and sperm. However, Sergio Canavero is sure that this the problem will be solved in the coming years, that is, humanity learn to grow a healthy body based on their own DNA.
