In Chicago (Illinois, USA) a huge karst funnel opened right in the middle of a residential street, resulting in three cars failed. In one of them at the time of the incident there was a man – he was hospitalized with injuries, not representing a serious danger to life.

As explained by the official representative of the Department of Water farms of Chicago Tom Laporte, a karst funnel formed in the result of a breakthrough of the old water main that was erected in 1915. Heavy rains that hit the city these days has further worsened the situation, according to local edition of the Chicago Tribune.

Heavy rains caused massive floods, reported about hundreds of flooded basements in the city. As a result of this power cities were forced to close certain sections of the main high-speed motorways, canceled hundreds of flights, closed schools, and on assistance to the emergency department even attracted prisoners of a local prison.
