American doctors during the experiment introduced the patient into state of suspended animation. This is reported by the information publication New Scientist.
Is suspended animation possible?
University of Maryland employee Samuel Tisherman told how he and his colleagues were able to introduce a person into suspended animation. Anabiosis is the state of the body in which the brain completely stops human activities. This is still an isolated case. Scientist not specified how many attempts were made before and how many man was able to survive after this procedure.
Given the success of the procedure, the developed approach as the experiment was included in the complex resuscitation. IN deep suspended animation can introduce patients with injuries that threaten them life, for example, with stab or gunshot wounds. At any the moment in such victims with large blood loss may fail heart, and doctors only have a few minutes to to help them.
The process of entering into suspended animation
Doctors begin to quickly cool the patient’s body to temperatures of 10-15 degrees Celsius, while replacing all the blood with special saline solution, which is pre-cooled to a temperature close to zero.
As a result of these measures, the patient’s brain stops function, then it is disconnected from the system and placed on operating table. Surgeons now have about two hours to find and eliminate the cause of severe blood loss.
Upon completion of the operation, the patient’s body temperature is restored and attempts are being made to resume heart function.
Doctors plan to test this approach on ten patients, and then compare its results with the results of treatment of people not subjected to entry into suspended animation.
Currently, the experiment has received approval from U.S. Food Safety Authority food and medicine. Moreover, the patient is not required consent to this experiment, since in this case the risk death is too high.
