Recently, scientists have increasingly heard warnings that animal husbandry leads to environmental disaster because emissions carbon dioxide into the atmosphere from this industry, supposedly significantly more than from transport and electricity production. However, on what is such a statement based, that is, about the dangers of animal husbandry for the ecology of the Earth, which makes almost not the biggest contribution to enhancing the greenhouse effect on the planet? It turns out that all this is based on the 2006 UN report (author dokalada certain Henning Steinfeld), where a disappointing sounded figure of greenhouse gas emissions in the livestock industry – 18 percent of the total in the world.
12 years have passed since then, but scientists only today found out that FAO analysts were wrong because for livestock used an assessment of all its components, starting from production fertilizers, deforestation for fodder land and ending with gases, which are produced by the animals themselves. But as for the same transport, then for some reason only the exhaust gases of cars were taken into account, while welcoming, for example, electric vehicles that, like turned out to have a negative impact on climate (through power plants and so on) even more than cars with internal combustion engines. In fact, animal husbandry in the total mass of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, as shown recent data do not exceed 2-3 percent.
