The Amber Museum of Kaliningrad holds about ten thousand unique designs in which by the will of fate fell in due time insects – were in the resin, and so froze in it for many millions of years, preserved for us in its original form.
It is to study such exhibits of a unique museum in Kaliningrad recently arrived paleontologists from Novosibirsk Sergey Chernyshev and Andrey Legalov to get acquainted with inclusions amber storage, that is, to study the remains of living organisms, preserved in “sun stones”. What a surprise scientists when they discovered unknown to the science of insects that inhabited on our planet in the Eocene era – approximately 40 – 55 million years ago.
It is this discovery, which has become a world event for the museum, prompted the management and the academic council of the institution to the idea that on the basis of of their amber storage, you can completely create a laboratory for the study of ancient insects. According to Interfax, open such a laboratory in the Kaliningrad Amber Museum is planned in next year.
