Who does not know this wedding ritual, who himself did not shout “bitterly” the bride and groom? Those today in the post-Soviet space, perhaps not even found.

Meanwhile, as the scientist and writer Vladimir Shemshuk assures, there are many who devoted years of studying various Russian traditions, yelling at the wedding just needs to be “sweet” and not “bitter”. And sprinkle a trifle in front of the feet of the bride and groom does not stand. Otherwise their life will be bitter, and poor – petty. It’s also impossible says Shemshuk, stealing a bride, as that meant in antiquities that sooner or later you’ll take away your wife.

Real wedding ceremonies (and not just wedding ones), with bitterness the writer writes, were destroyed by the Bolsheviks at the beginning of the past centuries, destroyed in order to plant in the minds of people a completely different a culture of reverence and worship of the authorities, fear and hatred.

Despite this persecution, some rituals came back to life, but for some reason they were distorted, since their true carriers was no longer alive. So in the USSR it was customary to scream to the groom and “bitterly” instead of “sweetly” to the bride, toss a trifle under the feet of the young and commit many more, completely alien to the Russian spirit wedding rituals.

Moreover, the scientist says, many of them even found modern interpretations. For example, the same word “bitter”, which does not fits into the minds of a normal person – why so desire young? So they began to add that there was bitter wine on the table, in mostly, of course, vodka, and it’s supposed to be sweetened kiss the bride and groom …
