E2V has developed a non-lethal weapon that is capable of turn off the engines of cars and small boats from a distance of 50 meters in 3 seconds.

Her device, called “RF Safe-Stop”, weighs approximately 350 kilogram, and today it was experimentally installed on Nissan Nevara and Toyota Land Cruiser cars for temporary shutdown of electronic systems of cars. So non-lethal devices can be especially useful for stopping machines that allegedly used as kamikaze cars.

According to company representatives, RF Safe-Stop can also be installed in land-based stationary structures, boats, and in addition, there is a project to integrate it into a helicopter.

The device system generates intense radio frequency pulses that drive electronic systems of technology “in confusion “and temporarily disrupt their work.

RF Safe-Stop works in various ways on different machines, however, the principle of penetration of electromagnetic waves into electronic the chain of her goal remains unchanged.

An electromagnetic explosion passes through the wiring of a target in the form of a series pulses that get to the engine control system or immobilizer and stop her.

“In fact, an engine control system or immobilizer … when exposed, will try to restart. But until then while you keep it “in a state of confusion”, the engine does not will work, “explains E2V product manager Andy Wood.

“According to our calculations, if you have a full set of charged batteries for the device, it will give you two hours of work. In view of that you use 10 percent of this energy on electromagnetic pulses, it will give you 12 minutes of continuous work, “explains he.

Working with RF Safe-Stop does not require any special training, since E2V created its device with the expectation that the operator does not need anything more complicated than just clicking the red button when the target is in range.

The company recently demonstrated RF Safe-Stop at the exhibition DSEi and according to Wood, the technology has attracted the interest of 17 countries and 5 UK government organizations.

According to him, the acceptance of orders for the system will begin in the coming weeks, and adds that the company’s team can customize the RF Safe-Stop according to customer needs.
